There comes a stage in UPSC preparation when reading more is no longer enough.
You may know the syllabus. You may have completed the standard sources. But the real challenge is being able to recall, apply and reproduce what you know under examination conditions.
CORE BATCH 2027 is designed for aspirants who have completed at least one reading of the UPSC syllabus and are now ready for structured revision, regular testing and intensive answer-writing practice.
Keeping in mind the importance of integrated preparation for Prelims and Mains, the CORE Batch pattern has been redesigned for UPSC CSE 2027.
Instead of preparing for Prelims and Mains in isolation, students will prepare for and test themselves on the same topics from both Prelims and Mains perspectives.
Before the commencement of major subject modules, the respective faculty members will conduct orientation sessions to explain the preparation approach, syllabus coverage, sources, test strategy and expectations for the upcoming tests.
These orientation sessions will help students understand how to approach each subject from both the Prelims and Mains perspectives before appearing for the respective tests.
CORE Batch students will also have regular guidance sessions with Vinay Sir.
These sessions will focus on preparation strategy, consistency, course correction, examination approach and helping students remain focused throughout the preparation journey.
One of the major changes in CORE BATCH 2027 is the emphasis on integrated Prelims + Mains preparation.
Students will not study a topic separately for Prelims and then return to it later for Mains.
The same topics will be tested through Prelims, CSAT and Mains questions, enabling students to simultaneously develop factual clarity, conceptual understanding, analytical ability and answer-writing skills.
Begin with:
Prelims - 25 Qns - 50 Marks - 30 mins
Mains : 10 Qns - 125 Marks - 1hr 30 mins
and progressively move towards:
The focus is on improving content recall, question interpretation, answer structure, presentation, speed and time management.
22 Sectional Tests covering GS 1, GS 2 and GS 3, followed by full-length Mains and simulation tests.
The sectional tests are designed to ensure that students repeatedly revise important portions of the syllabus while learning to approach the same subject from both Prelims and Mains perspectives.
covering philosophical, social, ethical, political, economic, scientific and contemporary themes.
Regular practice helps develop your own approach to brainstorming, structuring arguments, using examples and maintaining coherence.
On every Essay Test date, you will be given 8 essay topics and will have to write 2 essays in 3 hours.
Regular full-length practice of theory and case studies to improve conceptual clarity, application, use of examples and ethical reasoning.
Total: 9 Full-Length Tests
19 Questions | 3 Hours
Along with additional Prelims simulation tests through MARG 2027.
CORE is not designed around the idea of simply writing a test and waiting for the next one.
The learning cycle continues immediately after the completion of the test.
Test discussion will be conducted right after the test in offline mode.
The Mains questions will be discussed live and streamed for CORE Batch students, while the faculty will simultaneously explain the Prelims questions, important concepts and related topics from the same syllabus.
This immediate discussion ensures that students can:
The live discussion of Mains tests will also create accountability and motivate students to write tests on the scheduled dates instead of postponing them.
CORE BATCH 2027 goes beyond tests and discussions.
Our core faculty members will be allocated a set of mentees and will remain in regular contact with CORE Batch students.
The purpose is to provide more focused academic guidance and help students remain accountable to their preparation schedule.
Mentorship will focus on areas such as:
This ensures that students are not simply receiving tests, but are also being guided throughout the preparation process.
Writing answers is useful only when students understand what needs to improve.
Therefore, evaluation copies of CORE Batch students will be uploaded on a priority basis.
Students can quickly analyse their evaluated copies, understand faculty feedback, work on their weaknesses and implement the improvements in the next test.
The process therefore becomes:
Preparation becomes significantly more effective when you are surrounded by serious aspirants following the same disciplined schedule.
A quality peer group will be formed among CORE Batch students to encourage productive academic discussions and maintain consistency.
Students with the same Optional Subject will also be grouped together so that they can engage in further discussion related to their optional subjects, share approaches and learn from one another.
The objective is to create a serious academic environment where students can grow together without losing individual focus.
Apart from the CORE Batch tests already mentioned in the timetable, students will receive additional tests every month based on Quiz Compilation questions.
These additional tests will help students:
These tests are in addition to the tests mentioned in the CORE timetable.
Compared to the previous CORE Batch pattern, one additional round of Full-Length Tests has been added.
The objective is simple:
Students should get sufficient exposure to full-length examination conditions before they appear for the actual examination.
Repeated FLT practice helps students improve:
We want aspirants to understand the CORE pattern before deciding whether the programme is suitable for their preparation stage.
Therefore:
And:
This will allow aspirants to experience the integrated Prelims + Mains pattern, understand the level of questions and see how the CORE Batch preparation system works.
CORE BATCH 2027 will have limited seats.
This is important because the programme includes faculty mentorship, answer evaluation, regular guidance, discussions and continuous tracking.
Limiting the number of students enables us to provide individual focused attention and meaningful academic support to every CORE Batch student.
CORE follows a progressive testing approach:
You do not wait until you are fully prepared to start writing.
You write, identify your gaps, improve them and return stronger for the next test.
All major CORE Batch tests will be completed by February 2027.
The objective is to ensure that students systematically complete an intensive cycle of Mains answer-writing, Essay, Ethics and GS practice before shifting their primary focus towards Prelims.
This allows students to enter the crucial Prelims preparation phase without carrying a large backlog of Mains preparation.
CORE is designed as one continuous UPSC CSE 2027 journey:
Intensive Mains + integrated Prelims preparation
Focused Prelims preparation (Complimentary)
Post-Prelims Mains preparation (Complimentary)
In other words:
The objective is to ensure continuity in preparation instead of forcing students to move between disconnected programmes at different stages of the examination.
Clearing Prelims and Mains is not easy, and at Insights IAS, we understand the hard work, perseverance and dedication that goes into this journey.
To recognise your efforts and help you take the next step, we are bringing our much-awaited Intensive Writing Practice and Self-Study Programme.
Join us to analyse your mistakes, strengthen your preparation and move into the next phase with a structured approach.
