KAS stands for Karnataka Administrative Services, officially known as the Gazetted Probationers Exam (GPE).
It is conducted by KPSC to recruit officers for Group-A and Group-B posts such as:
Assistant Commissioner
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)
Assistant Superintendent of Commercial Taxes
Tahsildar
Assistant Director (various departments)
Labour Officer
Block Development Officer (BDO)
Deputy Registrar, etc.
The KAS examination consists of three stages, similar to UPSC pattern.
Stage 1: PRELIMS (Objective – Screening Stage)
Paper 1: General Studies (100 Qs, 200 Marks)
Paper 2: Aptitude / CSAT (100 Qs, 200 Marks)
Both papers are qualifying for Mains shortlist
No negative marking (as per recent notifications)
Marks NOT counted for final rank.
Stage 2: MAINS (Descriptive – Rank Deciding Stage)
Total 7 Papers (1250 marks)

Stage 3: PERSONALITY TEST / INTERVIEW

Any Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
Age Limit :
General category: 21 to 35 years ;
OBC (2A/2B/3A/3B): 21 to 38 years ;
SC/ST/Cat-I: 21 to 40 years ;
PWD: +10 years relaxation ;

No cap on attempts (as of recent pattern), only age limits apply.
