The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) now conducts PSI exams under the guidance of the Karnataka State Police Department.
It is the Police Sub-Inspector (Civil/Intelligence) recruitment exam conducted by the Karnataka State Police (KSP) and monitored by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
Educational qualification - A candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree (any discipline) from a recognized university.
Types of PSI exams in Karnataka:
PSI (Civil)
PSI (Intelligence)
PSI (Wireless/Armed/Reserve) (as per notification)
Age limit for the PSI exam :
General category: 21 – 30 years
2A, 2B, 3A, 3B: 21 – 33 years
SC/ST/CAT-1: 21 – 35 years
(Exact age limits may vary slightly depending on the notification.)
Can final-year degree students apply?
Yes, but they must produce proof of graduation before the document verification stage.
Stages are there in the PSI exam :
There are usually three stages:
Written Exam (Paper I & II) - 200 Marks
Paper 1: Essay, Precise Writing, and Translation (Kannada to English & vice versa) - ( 50 marks)
Paper 2: Objective-type questions on General Knowledge, Mental Ability, and Current Affairs ( 150 marks )
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Endurance Test (ET).
Physical standards for PSI (Men) :
Height: 168 cm (General), 155 cm (SC/ST/CAT-1)
Chest: 86 cm (Normal), Expandable 5 cm
Physical standards for PSI (Women) :
Height: 157 cm (General), 155 cm (SC/ST/CAT-1)
No chest measurement required.
Endurance Test include -
Running (1600 m for men / 400 m for women)
Long Jump / High Jump
Shot Put (varies by category)
Medical Test & Document Verification.
What happens after clearing the exam?
You’ll undergo training at the Police Training Academy, and then be posted as a Police Sub-Inspector (Probationary) in Karnataka Police.
